Bangladesh Digital Safety Workshop Partnership Initiative

As part of its Digital Safety School initiative, Digitally Right partnered with the ACOS Alliance and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) to organize a two-day Digital Hygiene Training from May 18–19, 2024, in Dhaka. This training aimed to improve the digital security awareness and practical skills of journalists working across Bangladesh.

Thirteen journalists from diverse regions participated in the training representing a wide geographic spread of journalists from both digital and print media. The first day focused on digital hygiene basics, browser and account security, secure data transfer and deletion, and best practices for field reporting, including safe photo and video capture. On the second day, participants learned about device and communication security, creating strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, detecting malware and phishing attempts, and using fact-checking tools to verify online content. Each session was followed by hands-on practice with the tools under expert supervision.

The workshop concluded with a joint session by ACOS and CPJ, encouraging journalists to continue learning and share knowledge with their peers. Participants expressed strong appreciation for the practical approach and requested longer, follow-up sessions in the future.

This training reinforced Digitally Right’s commitment to equipping frontline journalists with the knowledge and tools needed to stay safe in an increasingly hostile digital environment.
