DRAPAC Digital Rights Convening – Bangladesh

As part of the regional Digital Rights Asia-Pacific (DRAPAC) initiative, Digitally Right collaborated with APC and EngageMedia to host the DRAPAC Bangladesh National Convening 2025. The two-day event aimed to strengthen the digital rights movement in Bangladesh by fostering multi-stakeholder dialogue and promoting inclusive, rights-based digital governance.

Day 1 gathered around 100 participants from government, civil society, tech, academia, and grassroots groups. The event featured panel discussions, a digital rights cartoon exhibition by Transparency International Bangladesh, and presentations by Digitally Right’s Tech Policy Fellows. Discussions focused on internet shutdowns, data protection, freedom of expression, and the digital divide.

Day 2 offered a closed-door meeting for 40 civil society representatives to reflect on the broader human rights implications of digital governance. The session emphasized the need to connect digital rights to ongoing advocacy efforts and build a sustainable, locally rooted movement.

Held during a time of political transition, the convening created a rare and timely space for open dialogue, trust-building, and collaboration across sectors. Key outcomes included consensus on the urgency of legal reforms, inclusive policy processes, and the need to end arbitrary internet shutdowns. By centering voices from marginalized communities and fostering cross-sector engagement, the DRAPAC convening laid important groundwork for shaping a more inclusive, accountable digital future for Bangladesh.
